Candice-Schweitzer

Your role here at SCPS?
Receptionist

How long have you been employed here?
Started in March of 2016.

What do you like best about working here?
After being a stay-at-home mom for the past 15 years, I enjoy being around such an amazing group of bright, fun, and energetic people.

Favorite Food/Drink?
This is a tough question because I like so many different types of food, but if I had to choose just one it would be Thai food. Hands down my favorite drink would be a medium Americano w/light cream from Peets.

Favorite Book?
My two most recent favorites, which I read this year in book club, are “Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd and “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty.

First Job?
My first job, aside from babysitting when I was 12, was working at a local coffee shop called Coffee Bistro.

What do you like to do when not at work/hobbies?
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Heath, and three not-so-little kids, Noah (16), Sophie (13), and Audrey (12). I spend most of my nights driving kids to activities and practices. On weekends I’m usually at a basketball tournament. On rare occasions, when I get time to myself, I enjoy working in my yard, reading, going to the gym, and doing projects around the house.

SCPS Welcomes De La Salle Intern Fiamteta Aklilu

Fiamteta-AkliluSalmon Creek Plastic Surgery is once again participating this year in the De La Salle North Catholic High School corporate internship program in order to provide a real-world working experience for a deserving local student. Joining us this year is sophomore Fiamteta Aklilu (or Fi, as she is known to her friends) from Northeast Portland. She has her sights set on medicine as a career, and we are very happy to have her as part of our staff. Please say hello next time you are in the office!

I would like to share a little bit about the school, which does also serve a number of students from the Vancouver area. The following information is from a staff member at the high school.

DLA-NorthDe La Salle is always on the lookout for local businesses who would be interested in participating in the corporate internship program, thereby providing a life-changing opportunity for a dedicated young person. I would be happy to discuss our experience with any interested person.

De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a quality education for motivated college-bound students from north/northeast Portland and Vancouver, many of whom are underserved and would not have an opportunity to receive a similar education elsewhere.

  • Most of their students live in poverty.
  • Students offset the cost of their education by working one day each week in a Corporate Internship at over 80 businesses like Nike, Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery and OnPoint Community Credit Union.
  • The majority of their students are African American, Latino or Asian.

No family is ever turned away for an inability to pay.  Over 85% of our families receive financial aid on our already low tuition of $2,995 – most receiving a full scholarship.

Their student body at the start of the 2014-15 school year of 317 students is racially diverse, underserved, inner-city youth who are willing to work hard for the opportunities the school provides.  While the majority of the students who attend De La Salle North Catholic High School enter two, and sometimes three, academic years behind, 97% of last year’s seniors were accepted to college.

Here is a video to look at to see some of their students.

Take a Class and Save a Life

At Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery, we have always made patient safety our number one priority. Towards that end, the entire staff recently re-certified in CPR.  If you or your loved ones have not done so recently, consider contacting your local Red Cross to sign up for a class. Bring a friend along as well. CPR guidelines have changed quite a bit in the last few years (actually becoming easier in my opinion). Take a class and save a life!
