How long have you been employed here?

I have been an employee at SCPS for almost 3 months.

What I enjoy the most at SCPS is the overall atmosphere. From the aroma of the spa room to the wonderful staff. Everyone works well together and appreciates each other. I feel privileged to be a part of a great team.

Favorite food/drink?

I grew up around great food, my dad was a chef when I was a child and my boyfriend is the Executive Chef at Lapellah. We enjoy going to new restaurants in Portland. I would have to say my favorite food would be a really good cheeseburger with fresh cut french fries.

Favorite book?

My favorite book would be any from Nicholas Sparks. I’m currently reading the “Game of Thrones” series.

My very first job was a daycare teacher at The Gingerbread House. I love working with kids, it was the perfect first job.

Iced tea. I grew up in Michigan mostly and enjoyed sweet tea as a young child. Now I like it barely sweet, but it is a year round staple in our home.

I don’t have a favorite book but I really enjoy The Moral Compass; Stories for a Lifetime, which I read to my children while they were growing up.

I enjoy being with my family, boating, having fun fellowship with friends, watching the skies for a summer thunderstorm, and walking my dog.

SCPS Welcomes De La Salle Intern Fiamteta Aklilu

Fiamteta-AkliluSalmon Creek Plastic Surgery is once again participating this year in the De La Salle North Catholic High School corporate internship program in order to provide a real-world working experience for a deserving local student. Joining us this year is sophomore Fiamteta Aklilu (or Fi, as she is known to her friends) from Northeast Portland. She has her sights set on medicine as a career, and we are very happy to have her as part of our staff. Please say hello next time you are in the office!

I would like to share a little bit about the school, which does also serve a number of students from the Vancouver area. The following information is from a staff member at the high school.

DLA-NorthDe La Salle is always on the lookout for local businesses who would be interested in participating in the corporate internship program, thereby providing a life-changing opportunity for a dedicated young person. I would be happy to discuss our experience with any interested person.

De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a quality education for motivated college-bound students from north/northeast Portland and Vancouver, many of whom are underserved and would not have an opportunity to receive a similar education elsewhere.

  • Most of their students live in poverty.
  • Students offset the cost of their education by working one day each week in a Corporate Internship at over 80 businesses like Nike, Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery and OnPoint Community Credit Union.
  • The majority of their students are African American, Latino or Asian.

No family is ever turned away for an inability to pay.  Over 85% of our families receive financial aid on our already low tuition of $2,995 – most receiving a full scholarship.

Their student body at the start of the 2014-15 school year of 317 students is racially diverse, underserved, inner-city youth who are willing to work hard for the opportunities the school provides.  While the majority of the students who attend De La Salle North Catholic High School enter two, and sometimes three, academic years behind, 97% of last year’s seniors were accepted to college.

Here is a video to look at to see some of their students.

Take a Class and Save a Life

At Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery, we have always made patient safety our number one priority. Towards that end, the entire staff recently re-certified in CPR.  If you or your loved ones have not done so recently, consider contacting your local Red Cross to sign up for a class. Bring a friend along as well. CPR guidelines have changed quite a bit in the last few years (actually becoming easier in my opinion). Take a class and save a life!
