Dr. Rick Green Visits Dominican Republic to Check on Rotary Club Project

Dr. Rick Green, center left, visits a Dominican Republic Community as part of a Rotary Club of Vancouver clean water project.

Dr. Rick Green traveled to the Dominican Republic in the Spring of 2022 to check on a clean water and sanitation project supported by the Rotary Club of Vancouver.

He visited two communities in the northwest of the country where Haitian migrants live and work under very challenging conditions.

Happily, the water filters and composting latrines are helping to keep the families healthy so that kids can stay in school and the adults can find work in agriculture.

Why a “Board-Certified Cosmetic Surgeon” Isn’t a Plastic Surgeon, and What That Means for You

Many doctors marketing themselves as cosmetic surgeons do procedures beyond the scope of their training

An article released in October by the AMERICAN SOCIETY OF PLASTIC SURGEONS is something everyone must read if they are considering plastic and reconstructive surgery. To read the full article, visit the link below.

“Cosmetic surgery – that’s just another way of saying plastic surgery, right?” Wrong. Doctors who advertise themselves as certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) don’t measure up to meet the criteria required for board-certified plastic surgeons.

“When selecting an aesthetic surgeon, many patients place trust in knowing their surgeon is a ‘board-certified’ plastic surgeon,” Dr. Drolet and coauthors write. “Many patients falsely assume all surgeons must be board-certified in plastic surgery in order to perform cosmetic procedures.”

As the authors write, the unregulated growth of the aesthetic marketplace may make it difficult for patients to find a qualified cosmetic surgeon. Misleading marketing and overtly false advertising are widespread in many large markets. One metric commonly used to select a qualified surgeon is board-certification; however, that distinction has become obfuscated, blurring the lines for patients.

Board-certified plastic surgeons must have at least six years of surgical training, including completion of an accredited plastic surgery training program. They must perform thousands of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery procedures of different types, pass rigorous written and oral examinations and commit to continuing education and assessment throughout their careers.

However, an ABCS-diplomat is asked to complete only one year of surgical training, experience 300 procedures and one written and oral examination completed during a single weekend, with no continuing medical education requirements.

  • Purifying Toner helps clear skin of surface bacteria that can lead to breakouts and helps control visible shine.

  • Lytic Tx products are for daily use and help unclog and clear pores of impurities.

  • Lite Renewal Facial Lotion helps optimize the function of the skin.

Facemasks at Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery

We are focusing first on safety

At Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery, the health of patients and employees is our first priority, so strict safety measures have been put in place, including:

  • Asking each patient how they are feeling at the time of scheduling.
  • Checking each person’s temperature at the door.
  • Asking all patients to bring and wear masks. If this is not possible, then we will provide a mask to patients who don’t bring their own.
  • All of our staff will be wearing masks and other personal protective equipment.
  • Extra cleaning and sanitizing of the lobby and exam rooms.
  • Minimizing or eliminating waiting in our lobby. Patients will be instructed to call us from their cars once they arrive in our parking lot

Note: Visitors are not allowed to clinic appointments with the patient unless the patient is disabled and needs help to come to their appointment. If the patient is a child, then one parent can come with them to their appointment. Patients having an operation at our ambulatory surgery facility are allowed one visitor.

To make an appointment:

Call (360) 823-0860 or contact us through our website at www.salmoncreekps.com

Resuming non-urgent medical procedures

If you had a previously scheduled surgery or procedure that was postponed or canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, you will receive communication from our office. Priority will be given to the most urgent cases.

Thank You for Helping Us Support Furry Friends

Thanks to your help, Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery was able to donate $10,000 to Furry Friends, a no-kill cat rescue and adoption agency in Vancouver.  Dr. Virginia Huang presented the organization with a check during their annual dinner and fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver.

This year’s dinner was a costume tribute to the Star Wars franchise. In the photo below, you can see SCPS Social Media Specialist Ione Janik holding her cat, BJ, along with other SCPS staff. Above, Dr. Huang presents a check to the organization.
Start practicing your spells for next year, which will feature a Harry Potter theme!
