Treat face pigmentation problems with new pain-free procedure

pico-genesis1pico-genesis-before-after For years, many of our patients have sought our advice regarding the treatment of pigmentation issues on their face.

We have long recommended the Obagi NuDerm skin care program for correction of sun damage and minor skin texture issues.  Over the last six months, we have begun to incorporate a new laser procedure called PICO Genesis into our patients’ treatment plan.

This no-downtime (and pain free, believe it or not) procedure uses a special picosecond setting on our new tattoo removal laser to rapidly direct low energy pulses of light at the skin, targeting both pigmentation and superficial texture concerns.

Examples of some of the initial results are shown here.  The treatment feels similar to Laser Genesis, an application on our vascular laser that we have used for nearly 15 years to treat redness and rosacea.

If you have concerns about blotchy pigmentation on your face, please give us a call us at (360) 823-0860 to set up a complimentary consultation. This new and exciting technology might be just the thing for you!

Thanks for another great Open House

open-houseThe surgeons and staff of Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery want to thank everyone who visited our Open House on Friday, October 21. It was a great turnout! Many people seem to prefer the earlier October date over the December date of previous years.

If you missed it, don’t worry! We’ll keep you up to date on sales and events through our newsletter and Facebook page. Congratulations to the winners of our basket raffles, all of whom have been informed.

If you would like more information on anything you heard at the open house, please contact Angie at  asideras@salmoncreekps.com  or Karen at kkent@salmoncreekps.com or call the clinic to set up a consultation at 360-823-0860.

Yoga Comes to the Rescue of Aging Joints and Loss of Running Buddy

A few weeks ago, we lost our wonderful springer spaniel at age 12 ½. No creature will love you unconditionally in the way that a good dog will.   Jenny was my running buddy for many years, and she also excelled at board games.

As she started to slow down in the last couple of years, and as my knee started to swell with running, I needed to find another form of exercise that would be easier on middle-aged joints. My wife suggested that I try out a new yoga studio that had opened just across the new I-5 bridge near our office.

To be honest, I didn’t think that yoga was actually exercise. After all, my mother had gotten into yoga in the 1970s, but was not much of an athlete. I also wasn’t interested in chanting, gongs or anything that I might perceive as “strange.”

It has now been 20 months since I tried yoga for the first time and I continue to really enjoy the classes. They counteract all of the bad postures I find myself in during a long office or operating day. My flexibility continues to improve very slowly, but my balance is significantly better, and my shoulder, back and neck pain have entirely disappeared.

Any golfers reading this might be interested to know that I have increased my clubhead speed by five miles per hour (which means that I now hit my ball much further into the trees).

One of the things I like best about yoga is that people of all ages and all body types can practice together, regardless of ability or experience.

I would encourage everyone to consider trying something new like I did, especially if you find yourself with some nagging pain or stiffness that you just can’t shake. Jessie, the owner/instructor at Simply Yoga, has offered 10% off of an initial series of classes for any new student who mentions Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery.

Get to Know SCPS: Candice Schweitzer

We thought you’d like to get to know some of the people you see regularly at Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery and Spa who make your experience special. Occasionally, we will profile them on our blog and in our newsletter.

Your role here at SCPS?

How long have you been employed here?
Started in March of 2016.

What do you like best about working here?
After being a stay-at-home mom for the past 15 years, I enjoy being around such an amazing group of bright, fun, and energetic people.

Favorite Food/Drink?
This is a tough question because I like so many different types of food, but if I had to choose just one it would be Thai food. Hands down my favorite drink would be a medium Americano w/light cream from Peets.

Favorite Book?
My two most recent favorites, which I read this year in book club, are “Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd and “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty.

First Job?
My first job, aside from babysitting when I was 12, was working at a local coffee shop called Coffee Bistro.

What do you like to do when not at work/hobbies?
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Heath, and three not-so-little kids, Noah (16), Sophie (13), and Audrey (12). I spend most of my nights driving kids to activities and practices. On weekends I’m usually at a basketball tournament. On rare occasions, when I get time to myself, I enjoy working in my yard, reading, going to the gym, and doing projects around the house.

SCPS Adds New Laser Treatment Option for Spider Veins

Dr. Huang and I just this month added a brand new excel V laser from Cutera to our list of spa services.

At Salmon Creek Plastic Surgery, we use lasers to treat an average of four to six patients a day for spider veins on the legs, face and other areas. Our newest laser provides significantly more comfort for the patient and has a second wavelength to go after certain types vessels which had been challenging to treat in the past.

Additionally, the laser genesis feature on excel V gives us a significant upgrade in our ability to treat the redness of rosacea, another common condition we see every day.

If you’d like to see some before-and-after photos, scroll down on this page of the Cutera site. Give us a call at (360) for more information on this new and exciting treatment for your spider veins!
